Tamarind Terrace

20190301_204156.jpgOro Sulaimanilum Oruthri Mohabbat Venam“, unfortunately, there wasn’t any mohabbat served along with the food here, at Tamarind Terrace. I guess this is the reason why the food here fills your stomach, for sure, BUT does not fill your soul.  The Restaurant Manager (I am referring to a suited-booted gentleman standing right at the entrance of the restaurant here, who seemed like one) must surely bear this film dialogue in mind while treating the guests at the restaurant.

I have some really fond memories spent on the terrace, at my grandmom’s place, back home in India, making a lot of kondattams (the yummier version of Fryums). Not that I was looking forward to reliving those times at Tamarind Terrace, but I had a decent level of expectation from this restaurant, especially after reading a lot of positive reviews on Zomato. However, my experience at Tamarind Terrace was a tad sour, no pun intended! 😉

My husband and I decided to dine here on a cold February evening. As soon as we entered, we saw a seating arrangement outside the restaurant as well. We wanted to be seated inside the restaurant and hence approached the same suited-booted gentleman aka Restaurant Manager, mentioned earlier. He didn’t seem too keen to help and in fact, seemed a bit cold and rude. He asked a server named, Suras to help us out. Suras politely pulled out a table and two chairs and asked us to be seated outside as the tables inside were reserved. Now, there is absolutely no problem in being seated outside. However, the table was grimy and needed some solid cleaning. Anyway, we decided to ignore and just order for the food. We ordered for a Mutton Soup, some Appams and one of their specialities, Prawn Kizhi (as recommended by our server for the evening, Suras), wrapped in a banana leaf.

Appams

The mutton soup was bland and seemed like this flowy, peppery bowl of hot water, with absolutely no punch. A bowl of soup, if made well, is soothing, especially on a cold, winter night. Unfortunately, there was nothing that was calming about this soup. The soup was immediately followed by the prawn curry and appams. The Appams were nice and fluffy but we’ve had better appams, for sure! As for the Prawn Kizhi, it was mildly spiced and good, much better than the soup.

All in all, my experience at Tamarind Terrace was just about okay. Not coming here, anytime soon.

 Food : Just about okay!

Ambience : 3/5 for sure! The ambience is pretty good!

Service : 2/5, needs improvement!
