There are so many conversations surrounding Employee Engagement but very little is spoken about Candidate Engagement.
Candidate Engagement is the very first step towards Employee Engagement.
One of my favourite pet peeves has been going (well-prepared, at that)for an interview with an absolutely ill-prepared recruiter / interviewer (or hiring team).
The interviewer (or the hiring team) barely knows your name and has the cheek to ask you the position that you’ve applied for (while interviewing), as opposed to knowing it already.
Here’s the best part – the interviewer, after having already screened your CV previously (I’m assuming!) would suddenly feel that you’re not fit for the role as they need someone who is more experienced.
It’s disheartening and an absolute waste of time, more so for the candidates, as they’ve spent a considerable amount of time preparing for the interview, only to be told that they aren’t experienced enough for the role.
Instead, do not invite the candidate to interview if you feel that they aren’t experienced enough or lack a particular skill that’s upheld as sacrosanct for the team that they’re going to be working with!
Engage with your candidates better to have well-engaged employees!
