Salkara in Malayalam means a hearty welcome and just as the name suggests, the restaurant Salkara treats its patrons well! Right from the food, to the staff, to the ambience, everything’s just so welcoming and nice.
My husband and I have dined here quite a few times. Be it their lavish Kerala meals to the appams and stew, almost everything (except the biryanis, that can be bland) at Salkara tastes absolutely great! I’ve had the Kerala meal on many Fridays here, barring the taste of the Sambar sometimes, the rest of the traditional curries (be it the avial, thoran, kootu curry) are just awesome. The highlight of the meal is undoubtedly the Sambhaaram (buttermilk), I could just keep having it for the rest of my life. The Sambhaaram here is a heady concoction of small onions, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and coriander leaves (not sure if these are the exact ingredients) that gives it a distinct flavour that lingers on and you can’t help but crave for more, especially on a hot summer day.

The vegetable stew and the appams are really good too. The appams are both soft and crispy, just the way a great appam is supposed to be! The Tribal Chicken is one of its tribe – what’s with the flavours, the garam masalas, all attacking your taste-buds at the same time and elevating your senses to a whole new level!
We’ve been served by Mr Ratheesh on most of our visits to Salkara. He is one of the most welcoming servers who ensures that you leave the restaurant with a satisfied stomach and a content soul!
All in all, Salkara is a great restaurant for people who enjoy great food, decent ambience and exceptional service, especially at the hands of Mr Ratheesh.
Food: Awesome!
Ambience : 3/5 for sure! Pretty decent
Service : 5/5!
P.S. On most of the Fridays, this restaurant is jam-packed and the waiting period could be as long as 45 minutes to an hour!
