Masala Wok

IMG-20180717-WA0005The husband and I headed to Masala Wok for some post-birthday celebrations (we celebrated his birthday recently, yay!). And yes, this was again one of our after-gym-shenanigans..haha! 😉

Masala Wok serves Chinese, desi Chinese at that, just the way we desis like it! 😉

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you cannot help but notice its tastefully done interiors, replete with photo frames, fancy lamps and wall showpieces.

We were directed to our seats and one of the servers quickly came in with a small glass of juice and a small steel basket of fryums – fryums are these fried Indian snack items, made out of rice (it could also be made out of some other grain like Sago or Sabudana).

The man-of-the-moment was in the mood to have some prawns, so, based on our server, Mr Peter’s recommendation, we decided to order for some Salt n Pepper Prawns. The prawns were well done and had a nice peppery taste to it. However, as per the husband, this wasn’t the best prawn starter that he had had, although it was pretty decent, to begin with. And yes, we also ordered for some Veg Manchow Soup (always one by two, the bonafide desis that we are!) as an appetizer along with the prawns. The soup definitely was one amongst the best soups that I had in a long, long time – it had the right amount of spice, the right amount of tang (courtesy the vinegar),  and the ambrosial scent of garlic and ginger that just elevates the taste of the soup (or of any dish, for that matter).

Next, came in the Vegetable Fried Rice and Vegetable Manchurian. I liked the vegetable fried rice, it was cooked well and was pretty flavourful. However, the Vegetable Manchurian was a bummer, it didn’t quite match up to the Vegetable Fried Rice. The gravy was fine but the Manchurian balls were a little sticky (could be because of the cornflour, used in excess, I guess).
